A little message from back then.

Remember that feeling?

Some memories arrive with a smell, a sound, or the first three seconds of a song. Those are the ones we’re here for.

You spent twenty minutes choosing a song lyric for your away message. You knew which CD lived in which scratched-up case. A trip to the mall could fill an entire Saturday.

Away Msgs is a weekly newsletter about growing up in the ’90s and 2000s: the little rituals, big feelings, and very specific things you haven’t thought about in years.

Hi, I’m Ashley.

I’m making a place for us to remember the good parts and bring a little of that feeling into life now. Some of the memories will feel exactly like yours. Others will make you text a friend to compare notes.

Every Friday, you’ll get a main trip down memory lane, a song to revisit, some channel surfing, something everyone wanted, and a three-question quiz.

You can read it with your coffee, send it to the friend who will get the reference, and hit reply when something brings back a memory.

A few things we’re keeping simple.

The newsletter is free. We plan to support it with useful affiliate recommendations and clearly labeled sponsors. When something is a paid link or placement, we’ll tell you.

Our social corner is X and Threads. Think short observations, little references, and the energy of a very carefully chosen away message.

You don’t need to buy anything or follow us anywhere to enjoy the letters. Just bring your very specific memory of a pencil case.

See you Friday?

A little nostalgia looks good in your inbox.
